The Mayor Lee Harris Rising Stars Awards recognize exceptional youth across Shelby County who are leading, innovating, and driving meaningful change in their communities.
From advocacy and philanthropy to entrepreneurship, academics, the arts, and community impact, Rising Stars are shaping what's possible, right now.
This is a competitive recognition for young people who are not just achieving, but acting as changemakers, demonstrating:
We strongly encourage nominations from across all Shelby County municipalities, representing youth of all backgrounds, experiences, and abilities.
The nominee and nominator cannot be the same individual.
Nominees must meet all of the following:
Nominee must be between 7 and 24 years of age.
Must live in or attend school or an organization within Shelby County.
Demonstrate impact in at least one of the following areas:

Recognize an outstanding young person in Shelby County. Share their story and help them shine.
Nominations are open to educators, community leaders, parents, peers, and organizations. Self-nominations are not accepted.
Strong nominations include specific examples, measurable impact, and clear evidence that the nominee is acting as a changemaker and stands out among peers.
Yes. Each submission should provide unique insights or examples about the nominee.
Yes. A separate nomination form must be submitted for each nominee.
No. Nominations must be submitted for individuals only.
All eligible nominations are reviewed by a panel using a structured rubric. Selected honorees will be notified and recognized at the awards luncheon.
